2021 Environmental Studies Alumnus Kimathi Muiruri becomes Carolina’s 54th Rhodes Scholar

Alumnus Kimathi Muiruri majored in both history and environmental studies. His trajectory at UNC helped him find the intersection between the two, launching his interest in how the destruction of the environment has negatively impacted the global south. Since his time as a Tar Heel he has been involved with research regarding land, agriculture, and food systems at the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment which is part of Columbia University’s Law School in New York City. Muiruri now plans to go on to Oxford University’s School of Geography and Environment and further his research!
